In the United States, the taxes taken out of paychecks by hard working citizens are used towards medical attention for those who cannot afford insurance and provide aid to those who are facing hardships in the household. Some corporations require drug testing for employees and the employees agree to do so. They accept the consequences that if they do choose to disobey the law concerning drugs, they will lose their job and income. If that is okay, then why is it such a big deal if we start to drug test those who receive benefits from the government? There is a few different types of government assistance programs that allow citizens to receive help if they qualify. The main government assistance program is the medical card. The medical card allows people to receive medical benefits having to pay little to none. Next, is SNAP which is also known as food stamps. SNAP is a card that is reloaded with money every month in order for families to buy groceries. They also have a cash assistance program which allows families to buy necessities. People who are disabled or elderly and cannot physically or mentally work. Those are the people who do deserve our help. I also believe that if we were to start drug testing citizens that do qualify for these programs that it may help people go to rehab or get the proper help they need from professionals. If they fail a drug test, which the drug test will state what drug is present, than an ultimatum should be given. They can chose to go to a rehab facility or they chose not to and no help will be given to them. Addiction is a brain disorder. They tend to do whatever it takes to get the drug of their choice.
