In the book Hatchet By Gary Paulsen, the Antagonist Brain Robeson, a 13-year-old finds himself alone in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash. Brain shows courage, resilience, and resourcefulness throughout his struggle to survive. With these abilities, Brain can strive living in the forest, and it is these abilities that make him a true hero. In this essay we will look at 3 reasons that make Brian a true hero.

One of the things that make a hero is their determination to overcome whatever they are facing. Brian Robeson shows his determination through his time in the wild. When the plane first crashed he was in shock, but he refused just to sit there and wait for help, in the book it says “ He would not stop. He would not let despair take over him”. Brain's Determination gives him motivation, through this, he learns basic survival skills. He makes a shelter, Finds and hunts food and even learns to make fire. His determination shows that he is a hero and does not give up, even when it gets tough. …show more content…

Even though he is stranded in the wild where he knows nothing, He quickly adapts to the environment around him to survive. When brains plane first crashed, he did not know the basic things, Eg; Catch food or start a fire. However as Brian gets more experience, he learns his way around the forest, finding plants he can eat and hunting for food. His ability to adapt to new things and learn from his mistakes shows that he is a hero. A quote from the book “He would learn from his mistakes. He would
