North Korea Webster defines human trafficking as, “organized criminal activity in which human beings are treated as possessions to be controlled and exploited (as by being forced into prostitution or involuntary labor)”. Human Trafficking is a crime that exists in all parts of the world, this week our focus was North Korea. North Korea is located in the East Asian on the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. Human trafficking comes in many forms, the broad definition of trafficking would include: sex trafficking, trafficking into explorative work (agricultural worker, domestic help, and child soldiers), adoptive trafficking, and organ trafficking (p.11). The country of North Korea is ranked as a tier 3 country, meaning their government doesn’t fully comply with the minimum standards of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act' (TVPA), and they are not making any significant effort to do so. The government did not report any investigations, prosecutions, or convictions is relation to human trafficking offences. In regards to protecting the victims, the government has also made no efforts. The government made no efforts to provide protective services to victims nor do they exempt victims from being penalized for crimes related to trafficking. The NGOs are not doing anything to help because the country has not permitted them to do so. No preventative measures have been taken to stop trafficking. Due to the oppression in North Korea, many people flee the country, which makes them more vulnerable to trafficking. The issue of human trafficking in North Korea hasn’t been addressed by the government, nor has a plan been made to help eradicate human trafficking. I have not found a hotline specifically for
