Work, leisure, and media allows impacts an adolescent in some type of way, multiple times daily but in different ways. I see a big problem in today is because of the video games and the impact it has on adolescents. Their brains are not finished developing and the media and video games is causing problems in this generation today. The text states “Only about 30 minutes a day are spent in activities thought to be mentally challenging, such as reading or playing a musical instrument, or physically beneficial, such as sports or exercise” (Steinburg 183). I think because of video games and media that adolescents think it is okay for violence and sexualy activity. Their brain is not able to decipher what is right and wrong and it leads them to make poor choices, which leads to school/public shootings and rape. I believe this is a problem because their parents are not able to be there to push them into the right direction because they are at work most of the day, and adolescents are at home alone possibly with their friends and they end up making poor choices with one another. In today’s society, you see more older people working than you do teenagers. It is very difficult for a teenager to get a job, because of their maturity level, the responsibility that goes with it and et cetera. …show more content…

It will allow psychologist to further understand the provide the treatment for their patients care. For my field, Speech Language Pathology, there would need to be further research to investigate the impact on work, leisure and media has on the adolescents and how it will allow me to work with the adolescents it affects.
