My responsibility to America? That’s a great question. Being an American means that one has responsibilities to their country. The level of these responsibilities vary, from very simple things, to the most ultimate of sacrifices. On a very basic level, the most important responsibilities one can take for their country are showing pride, being involved in one’s community, and serving the country.

A responsibility that Americans have is to show pride our country. Having pride in America can mean many different things. Maybe you hang a flag from the house on Fourth of July. Maybe you hold the door open for that stranger, or you pick up that trash on the side of the road. Maybe you thank that veteran for their service, or you help someone. Doing …show more content…

In America, community is essential to the growth and prosperity of the nation. Without community, individuals cannot grow, and without individuals getting involved, communities cannot grow. A real sense of community is what makes our nation strong. We come together and support each other, whether it be in times of prosperity, or times of great need. Thinking of this, I am reminded of the times that our nation has rallied, and we have come together as one. After hurricane Sandy in 2012, or after the city of Greensburg, in Kansas, was destroyed by a powerful tornado in 2007. Perhaps the day when Americans most truly stood together was September 11th, 2001. In the face of much adversity, pain and despair, hatred, Americans stood tall and came together. On September 11th each year, we don’t mope and we don’t feel sorry for ourselves, nor do we cry tears of sadness. We cry tears of joy. We get involved with our communities, to remember those who lost their lives that day, and we celebrate those who defend us today. Democracy only works when people get involved, and our responsibility is to make sure that we sustain the greatest democracy on this
