For My Discussion question I will discuss 2 specific ways that I as a teacher or counselor could assist my students in developing self motivation for academic success. Although students need to be self motivated to achieve academic success, I personally feel as though a good support system from parents and educators could make the process of learning less overwhelming. I have researched and connected with a site that talks about Seven Principals for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education. The principals discussed on this site are based from research, teaching, and learning from college settings and they are :
- Encourage contact between students and faculty
- Develop reciprocity and cooperation among students
- Encourage active learning
- Give prompt feedback
- Emphasize time on task
- Communicate high expectations
- Respect diverse talents and ways of learning I will first discuss on Giving prompt feedback in class and for distance learning, and then discuss Respect diverse talents and ways of leaning. When students are doing class work or have completed their class work giving a student feedback on their progress or what can be improved will help encourage them to do better or correct errors in their work. I am currently in another psychology class and we are using this technique and I feel that this method seems to be very effective and helpful in my understanding of what the subject we discuss about means. Our professor gives us feedback on our papers within a week or two and this allows us to improve our work for future assignments. At the end of class at times our professor asks the students if the subjects we discuss in class and our overall learning objectives are helpful not only for our education but tools we can use in our everyday
