While the federal government possesses powers delegated to it by the U.S. Constitution, the Texas government operates under the Constitution of Texas. Created in 1845 and modeled after the U.S. Constitution, the Texas Constitution divides the state government into three branches. These include the executive branch, the judiciary branch and the legislative branch. The executive branch carries out the laws and is led by the Governor. The judicial branch consists of courts and judges who interpret and enforce the laws. The legislative branch makes the laws. I chose this research topic instead of the other option because I knew a little more about the Texas legislature than the six flags over Texas. I found it not only interesting to learn about who represents me and their background information but it is also a good thing to know for future reference. I do not really watch the news much so looking up the most recent policy issues really made me aware of what is being talked about the most and the concerns with each one. After reading about the most recent issues online I have started to watch the news every morning to become more aware of what is going on within the public policy issues. I will admit that I did not know what exactly the public policy and the various stages along with it were until I read chapter eleven in our textbook. I can honestly say that this was a great research topic for me. I learned more than I thought I was going to and feel more confident in knowing who my representatives are, what the public policy is and what the most recent issues are
