1. What stood out to you most from this week's reading, and why?
Something that stood out to me the most from this week’s reading is what is public health in chapter 1. The reason why public health stood out to me was because I believe it is important to understand this information for future knowledge. Public health is not easy to define or to comprehend (Schneider & Schneider, 2021). There are three core functions of public health which include assessment, policy development, and assurance. The Future of Public Health defines the mission of public health as the fulfillment of society’s interest in assuring the conditions in which people can be healthy (Schneider & Schneider, 2021).
4. What would you say are the key points from this week's reading?
I believe the key points from this week’s reading are the prevention and intervention in chapter 1. The purpose of prevention is to develop interventions designed to prevent specific problems. Public health’s approach to health problems in a community has been described as a five-step process (Schneider & Schneider, 2021). The five-step process starting from one to five include defining the health problem, identify the risk factors associated with the problem, develop and test community-level interventions to control or prevent the cause of the problem, …show more content…

Understanding why public health is controversial discussed in chapter 2 is important to learn about public health. Additionally, I believe this reading is also really about the powers and responsibilities of government relating to public health. This information can help increase the knowledge of public health and help have a better understanding of public health.
