In order for leadership to be true and effective the leader’s behavior has to be influenced and consistent with moral and ethical values (Mendonca, M. (2001). Ethical leadership should be at the backbone of every organization. Not everyone is born to be a leader. A good leader has personal values that they will not compromise for anything. Having a moral character and holding on to their values no matter what the situation consist of is what is involved in being a ethical leader. Some people have it and others do not. Being an ethical leader comes from having good values and morals and those are things that are usually instilled in someone at a very young age. The first ethical leadership practice that was discussed was that ethical leaders must respect and serve others. An example of that would be that ethical leaders nurture their subordinates to ensure that their subordinates are aware of their own needs and values. The second ethical leadership practice that was reviewed was that ethical leaders are honest. An example of ethical leaders being honest is that they must be real with their organization. They must open up to their organization and be as real as they can possibly be. The third ethical leadership practice that was reviewed today was that ethical leaders are fair. When speaking of ethical leaders being fair, the fairness should include them ensuring that they place fairness at the center of their decision making for every single decision that they make. The final ethical leadership practice that was reviewed today was that ethical leaders build their organization. For example an ethical leader influences others within their organization to reach a common goal. When it comes to being a ethical leader it takes a total package to make everything come together. An ethical leader embodies all of the characteristics that were listed in the paper which are that they respect and serve others; they are honest, they build up their organization and they always practice being
