Introduction In her article “Exploring the Relationship of Ethical Leadership with job satisfaction, Organizational Commitment, and Organization Citizenship Behavior” Laurie A. Yates of Eastern Organ University wanted to test her hypothesis is that organizations that are led by ethical leaser will have employees who are as satisfied or more satisfied with their jobs and they are equally committed or more committed to their organizations (Yates, 2014). Right away Yates starts to comment on the importance of ethic and morality, in this paper I will analyze ethics and morality and where I believe the originate from (Yates, 2014). Yates’s hypothesis proved to be correct and aligned with Biblical teaching. The question is how do leaders of an organization create a positive culture based around high moral standards and ethics.
Part 1
Ethics and Biblical Worldviews In Yates’s article, she discovered that ethical leadership is important part of building a healthy organizational environment (Yates, 2014). Ethics are dependent on an individual’s world view. For those who hold a Biblical worldview are ethics are attained through what God us through his word. We believe that the scripture is God breathed and therefore cannot be changed, ignored, or modified. We as Christians we believe in truth and that truth is not relative. As a follower of Jesus Christ ethical write and wrong is objective as oppose to the secular view right and wrong being subjective 9 (Beckwith & Koukle,1998). Ethics are an extension of a person’s morality. I want to focus on two separate instances within my professional life where I was a member of an organization where my leadership engaged in unethical and what the effects were on my mine and my team members motivation. The first and most recent was a situation where my immediate and regional supervisors were providing test answers to questions that would help us to become certified within in our field. Not only was this against policy but it was concealed from the people taking the test that it was wrong, they made myself and others believe it was for learning purposes and standard operating procedure at this organization. It wasn’t until later that I discovered that this was not actually standard and even though I know longer worked at this organization I volunteered to give statements to how this was done to prevent future employees to be led down the same path. This type of unethical practice was rampant within that office and it was very hard as a subordinate to understand what was actual policy and what was disguised as policy to make the leadership seem more effective than it was. In this case, unethical didn’t mean illegal but it that did mean that it hasn’t had negative effects on the morale which have hurt the organization in its ability to perform it function, financially, and adding stress to the offices that had to cover the workload because of
