As a part of the application, the personal statement plays an important role in making an applicant stand out among a large pool of the best-qualified applicants. It is used to deliver the applicants’ personal voice and convince the committee reading their personal statement that they are well suited for the program. To better plan and prepare the personal statement, applicants should not merely explain their background and interests, but explain specific ideas, experiences, or research they have generated or participated.
