I am applying to the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) as a math major because the prestige of the math department at UM-Ann Arbor attracts me. With the broad range of coursework that UM-Ann Arbor offers, I foresee being interested in more than just math, possibly minoring or double majoring in another subject. There are numerous subjects and classes that I can choose from, and I am looking forward to taking full advantage of UM-Ann Arbor’s various course offerings by exploring other fields, such as statistics, physics, and business. Additionally, the curriculum is responsive to the diverse levels of student preparation and career goals, which require a variety of content and pedagogy; I am confident that my needs and desire to delve into mathematics immediately will be met. The mission statement of the college at UM-Ann Arbor profoundly resonates with me: serving the people of Michigan and the world through applying knowledge and developing leaders who will better their environment. An education at UM-Ann Arbor will undoubtedly prepare me for an educational career at a prestigious school and provide numerous opportunities for me to flourish. Furthermore, I plan on being an adventurer, curious and open to novel experiences. The extracurricular life at UM-Ann Arbor seems to be full of boundless potential, as over 1500 student organizations exist at UM-Ann Arbor; I will find something that piques my interest. I look forward to fully participating in the university community and getting more involved in community service. For example, math tutoring is one of my passions, and I take delight in explaining complicated concepts to my peers. In college, I hope to improve my math teaching skills, by either continuing to volunteer in the community or by tutoring my fellow
