Qualitative and quantitative research studies strive to find answers to questions or issues unexplored in the literatures or little it is known about it. A solid research study employs sampling strategies targeting population studied , the sample size and variety of tools for collecting data. The results of each qualitative and quantitative studies depend on the clarity and effectives of the sampling process applied. Each study uses single or multiple sampling strategies depending on topic research examined and available resources. In the article “Male and Female Nursing Applicants’ Attitude and Expectations Towards Their Future Careers in Nursing” the researchers approach sampling by identifying the study population as the nursing …show more content…
To represent this population, a sample of 129 teachers were selected. It is unclear if the sampling was randomized or not. Since it was not specified in the study we assumed that it was not. Stratification sampling method employed in the selection of the high schools. The eligibility for the sample selection is clearly specify by inclusion of only married women sexually active in the study and excluding the “ women experiencing menopause and women at risk” (Rezaei, Seydi, & Alizadeh, 2004). In this quasi-experimental research a three sampling strategies were implemented. The researcher utilized the cluster sampling to divide Tabriz in 5 educational districts. This approach of sampling has the risk of some characteristics bias like age, or socio-economic status. Another sampling strategies implemented was the simple random sampling to select the 3 schools in each district, the 3 study groups and the number of participants in each group study. Simple random sampling gave each high school in the district, and their participants an equal chance of being included in the sample. Stratified random sampling embroiled in selecting the number of participants in each district from each school. In this quasi –experimental research the three randomly selected study groups were randomly assigned the two research methods of education. A control groups was used to provide baseline data …show more content…
In order to enhance the knowledge they can acquire from the participants the researchers appeal to strategy for sampling named maximum variation sampling. Following this sampling approach the researchers chose 15 nurses with 3 or more years of experience in cancer patients care of a major cancer hospital in Melbourne, Australia (Botti et al., 2006). The maximum variation strategy is to select the nurses with high level of experience who could help researchers to understand about phenomena and concepts about the psychosocial barriers in providing support to cancer patients. In addition, this strategy method justifies the eligibility criteria for this study. The sampling criteria are clearly delineated and the researcher enforced sampling strategy using focus group interviews to maximize data collection from the participants. The participants in this study are selected nonrandomly in 2 groups one of 8 participants and one of 7 participants (Botti et al., 2006). Data collection resulted from notes taking, audiotaping the conversation, open –ended questions, materials from the literature and clinical guidelines presented during the interviews.
