How does a tragic hero create flaws and difficulties for people? In the story Antigone, Creon has many series of different tragic flaws. He makes a lot of judgement that lead to the destruction of loved one. As a leader, you have a lot of stress but you should always make the best decision for family and others who you are incharge of.
In the past prideful rulers have caused more destruction and downfall than anything. Having pride may be good, but having to much can be the downfall of man. In the play Antigone, King Creon being overyly prideful ultimately leads to the death of himself emotionally. Antigone’s Moral Development The play Antigone by Sophocles, is about a girl who faces a family conflict over her deceased brother. The protagonist is Antigone and she stays the same morally throughout the play. Kohlberg’s Theory of Moral Development helps people understand the stages individuals morally move through as they mature more. Because of Antigone’s decisions and ideas at the beginning and the end of the play, she is a morally static character through the story.
Antigone showed bravery when she was brought in to Creon, she said, “I deny nothing… Your edict, King, was strong, But all your strength is weakness itself against… This death of mine / Is of no importance; but if I had left my brother Lying in death unburied, I should have suffered. The Altered Morality of Justice Society is unjust, laws do not protect Moral beliefs yet laws always tend to put the hero behind the bars and sometimes that tends to be the solution. Many laws in many forms tend to alter what right means, for example not being able to marry due to the fact that they are the same sex or stoning a Muslim woman to death because she has shown too much of her neck. In the play Antigone written by Sophocles, a young woman named Antigone defies the law. She buries her brother in order for him to go to heaven. However, there was a law that prohibited anyone from burying her brother,Polyneices, because he has attacked his own land, Thebes, to gain power.
The decision of life and death as always been left to one entity: God. As time progresses, humans wanted to wear the clothes of God. Humanity’s greed and pride have sparked a moral dilemma. Conscience vs. Society Everyone faces difficult choices throughout their life, and many of these choices are due to the pressures of society. Society is cruel and everyone, at some point in their lives, has been at the receiving end of that cruelty and felt the sorrow it brings. The search for justice is never ending. Justice may be delayed, denied, or postponed, however, the search is timeless. To be just is to argue for fair rights for all. It is to be someone that will help the people of the community. However, many times justice is not sought and not given to those who need it most.
Mankind is often faced with ambivalence towards law. People believe that is necessary to deal with the world when it is constantly involved in some form of chaotic turmoil. However, this can be considered as one our main glaring flaws within our society because humanity tends to do more harm than originally created. This conflict also arises in the play, Antigone, by Sophocles. Antigone, the character, imitates the struggle between what she deems to be morally upstanding and what the law actually says is equitable.
