The ignorance of the animals, led to the pigs’ corruption. The oppression of the animals in the novel Animal Farm is caused by the lies the pigs create to trick the animals into ignorance, giving the pigs more power. The lies told by the animals are not only used to trick the animals into trusting the pigs in the book, but they impact the animals in a negative way. This book, also written as an allegory, parallels the real world, and how ignorance creates oppression. Orwell expresses how the animal’s stupidity causes them to not realize the manipulation and deceit they are under. The pigs lie in the form of propaganda. A corrupt leader impacts their people negatively. Boxer ‘s maxims are the best examples of the impact of corruption. The propaganda manipulates his brain into developing two maxims: “Napoleon is always Right. I will work harder”(Orwell 66). Boxer continues to use these maxims everyday like a mantra. Boxer pushes Napoleon's agenda by doing the hard work. This causes Boxer to overwork himself causing him to collapse of exhaustion. For his loyalty, hard work, and devotion, Napoleon claims to send him to a Willingdon hospital surgery. However, this is a lies, as Napoleon sells him to a horse slaughter and glue boiler in chapter 9. In the aftermath, Napoleon hails him as a hero with a memorial, immortalizing his maxims. Boxer is the perfect worker, and Napoleon backstabs him. Napoleon shows acts of random aggression when the chickens confess to their crimes, “dogs tore their throats out”(Orwell 84). Shortly after Squealer changes the no killing other animals commandment, with an added clause: “without cause”(Orwell 85) . This manipulation and corruption of lies made by the pigs, makes the animals ignorant to the fact that they are being oppressed. In this scandal he was involved in several financial violations and scandals that were related. The irony of the situation is, before resigning in 2011, Senator Ensign was pushing for a bill that exposes WikiLeaks, an organization that exposes government cover ups. The senator tried to stop an organization that was exposing the government him, as a result, he was prosecuted in the Ensign Scandal. A United States Senator’s duty is to represent their state in the federal government, and act a servant leader to their people. They ought not to act in egocentric ways, and commit scandals that hinder their government’s ability to function, for their own pleasure. This is the true story of corruption and manipulation in our own government. He tricked the American people by trying to pass a bill against corruption, but in turn he himself was corrupt.
