The picture above is an example of the two rhetorics pathos and logos. This picture conveys both an emotional, portraying the cigarette as a gun, and a logical, the statistic that over 106,000 people die from cigarette related deaths each year, advertisement strategy. Pathos, mostly emotional impact on a reader, is clearly illustrated in the advertisement as through the picture of a hand holding a cigarette and the shadow of that hand is the shadow of a gun. This portrays the feeling that cigarettes are as lethal and malicious as that of the lethality of a firearm. Also, the advertisement channels the rhetoric of logos by providing a surprising legistic about the volatile deaths caused by the use of cigarettes.
Pathos, ethos, and logos have a specified role in argumentative literature. Logos is defined as the logic behind an argument. Writers utilize logos to impress a reader; thus, persuading the audience to believe in the reasoning presented to them. Ethos, also known as ethics, illuminates the author’s “back-bone”, or belief system, which provided him with a position for the argument. In other words, ethos explains why the author believes what he is saying and why the reader should, too.

Ethos, Pathos and Logos Bernard Roth author of The Achievement Habit: Stop Wishing, Start Doing and Take Command of Your Life and professor at Stanford University taught a class in design thinking that helped students realize their potential to be the best they can be. In writing his book he makes effective use of the rhetorical triangle in appealing to the readers’ emotions, logical thinking and sense of value. In chapter one he uses each of these argumentative strategies especially effectively when he describes what it means to be successful. He begins chapter one by beginning a conversation with the reader saying, “Your Life has no meaning”.
When a topic is under discussion, there are many strategies that can be implemented in order to communicate and transmit a point of view. First of all I analyze the audience, a correct study of the audience can give us the chance to choose the right approach. Then, I try to be specific and confident when I present my opinion, and use pathos, logos and ethos. Pathos are required to connect with the audience and give them the possibility to relate with the theme. Logos are a strong resource that supports the ideas that are under discussion, always a serious source is a perfect reference.

How can an author get the reader attention? Readers don’t like to read boring books, articles or essay. There are many strategy an author can use such as an ethos, pathos, and logos. The author can either use an emotional appeal, which is pathos, the usage of statistic and facts makes it logos, when an author builds up their character they are using ethos. When analyzing I asked myself what are these concepts used for and how can one recognize these strategies when reading?

the least ineffective rhetorical appeal is "logos"although there may be some logic in saying hi to a person when you see them most people do not say hello back to you. When i was younger i said hello to everyone i meet but there were always people that did not respond back. The reason why they did not respond back is because they didn't care or were not feeling to well to say hi. Most people say hi to send back the generosity of someone greeting them, others don't and just leave and smash your generosity on the ground. pathos is the main rhetorical appeal therefor other people use "hello" in everyday conversations.

Logos, Pathos and Ethos mean logos, sympathy and credibility respectively. The logos presented to us in this letter is “act right… generous principles” (L. 32-33). This line in the letter explains the logic behind Lord Chesterfields idea of helping his son. He is doing it out of care, compassion, and generosity rather than to annoy him.
