7. An external locus of control is when a person blames things that are out of there control. An internal locus of control is when a person believes that they can control the events that go on in their life it makes the outcome come out to what they want it. This information is found on page 421. I believe that it is better to have an internal locus of control. By having an internal locus of control, you can make goals for yourself and actually do something with your life instead of blaming things on your failures. An example that is great for this is when I was nominated for National Honor Society my junior year of high school. I filled out the application and I thought for sure that I was going to get in but when the letter came and said

I was disappointed by this and I admit I was jealous of some of the people that were accepted. So, when senior year came around I made sure to be a part of groups or events that helped me build up my leadership. From this I managed to be accepted into the National Honor Society. I was in shocked when I got the letter and I thought that it was a dream. The only bad part about having this is you think you can control everything in your life but you just can’t and I’m learning how to cope with this the hard way.

8. One perception of schizophrenia is disturbed perceptions. This is where the person has hallucinations of things that only exist in their mind. An example of this the book gives is where the person hears a voice in their head that tells them to do things. It could tell them that they should burn themselves with a cigarette lighter. The Fundamental Attribution Error is basically when you see how someone acts without looking at the whole situation. If a classmate acts shy in class, you might think that they are just overall shy. If you don’t see the classmate outside of class you might not see how they act around their friends. An example of this that is used in the book is they talk about Jack and Juliette. Juliette is shy in class and Jack talks over coffee. From this you think that Jack is outgoing and that Juliette is shy. You don’t see how Jack could be shy in class or how Juliette acts at a party. 10. Prejudice is basically where someone hates on a certain group and judges someone based on the group they are in. Over the years there have been ethnic prejudiced between white and blacks, gender, and sexual orientation. An example of prejudice that is used many of times over again is when someone sees a Muslim person on an airplane. Some people automatically go straight into thinking that the Muslim person on the plane is a terrorist and are afraid of them. They do this without getting to know the person and you never know that the Muslim could be the nicest person. An example that is used in the book is same sex marriages and that in a national survey 39% of LGBT Americans said they have been rejected by a friend or family member.
