For this reality assignment I observed my nephew Caleb at the park. Caleb is two years old, almost turning three in August. He has two other siblings, Taeden, who is five years old and Ava, who is seven months old. Caleb is an energetic two year old who loves to play and be active. He is constantly trying to keep up with his older brother who has more control over his body because of his older age. In this paper and am going to be focusing on Caleb’s gross motor skills and fine motor skills that I observed while watching him at the park, and at home eating. Gross motor skills refer to a child’s control over their actions that help them get around such as, crawling, standing, and walking. While he was playing there were some kids who started flying a kite near by and he pointed on amazement. Once he saw the kite him and his brother then asked if they could fly one. Their mom told them that they didn’t have one, but maybe they could look into getting one so they could fly a kite too. Soon after they saw the kite in the sky there was an airplane that flew over and he got really excited and started screaming “airplane” pointing at it in the sky. By going to the park and experiencing these things Caleb is able to learn and get to know more about the world around him and what his body is capable of doing. When children go to the park they are able to expand their gross and fine motor skills. By trying new things and being exposed to playgrounds and other children they are able to develop more. It is important that children learn to do things on their own and parents help guide them through problems they might come across when developing gross and fine motor skills (Lawrence). This will help these skills grow and they will be able to be confident in
