What do you define as realistic? Whatever you may define as realistic, I think you should believe that Romeo and Juliet is very unrealistic. The play, written by Shakespeare, is mostly not realistic, because of Romeo & Juliet's love and the number of people who die in such a short amount of time. The first reason Romeo and Juliet is unrealistic is because of Romeo and Juliet's love.
In the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses personification to view death as something that took away his daughter and it gives death these human traits to describe it. When Capulet discovers that Juliet has died he describes death a someone who just stole his daughter “Death, that hath ta’en her hence to make me wail, / Ties up my tongue and will not let me speak. / Death is my son-in-law” Capulet is referring to how death took away his only child Juliet before she could be married (4.5.32-38). Shakespeare applied personification here to make Juliet’s death to her father seem tragic and unexpected. This shows the audience that Capulet views death as a human who married his daughter before she could marry Paris.

Throughout Acts 1,2 and 3 the reader can see some of Romeo’s key character traits. He presents immature, impulsive, irresponsible and stubborn qualities through his actions. In Act 2, Scene 2 Romeo hides outside Juliet’s window only hours after meeting her and proceeds to confess his love and they make arrangements to get married. “Whatever a man in love can possibly do, his love will make him try to do it” (II. ii. 67). Romeo acted impulsively in this scene, he chose to stay at the house of Capulet and waited outside Juliet’s window.
Emotions are something that people can feel and experience. They can also cause harm and effect others in different ways. The emotions that people experience can cause others to feel them as well. As the play went on, and Mercutio’s death took place, we can see that him dying was a big part in the continuance of the play. If Benvolio and he hadn’t pushed Romeo in to so much, if Romeo hadn’t fallen in love with Juliet, or if Mercutio would have listened to Benvolio, then maybe the brazen teenager would have lived. At the beginning of the play, Romeo was depressed and very gloomy due to the fact that his crush, Rosaline, didn’t return his affection.

When Lords Capulet and Montague arrive they see all the unnecessary death and pain the feud has caused. They agree it must come to an end. Another set of characters that show love, in a very different way, is George and Lennie from the novel Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck.
