ABC Learning was founded in 1988, the company had a slow but steady start, by 1997 it was running 18 childcare centres across the country but in relatively short time everything changed, one significant development was that the Federal Government intervened in the system of child care centres which allowed families to apply for subsidized child care, the government was paying to the ABC LEARNING indirectly through its customers. (CPAaustralia). The child care company had a market share value of (25%) of wholly childcare services provided across the Australia, and it was at one time categorized as the Australia's largest provider of childcare services with more than (1,200) childcare centres across the country and New Zealand, also (1,000) childcare centres in the United States, and approximately 1,600 employees. ABC LEARNING CENTRE LTDA had developed from one centre in the year 1998 to a main corporation with a market capitalisation value of ($3.4 billion).
Working women tend to have only two children during their life time compared to a women who is not working and has an average of 4-6 children during her life time. The main reason for this is the knowledge about birth control. Besides, if they have a job, they will not have as many children because they know that the job is well paying and they can’t afford to lose it just because they have to look after kids. Also, many educated women don’t want to waste the education and degrees they have earned Since there are less children in MDCs and more old people, the average population age is increasing over
Provinces contend that decisions regarding childcare should rest within provincial purview, where governments possess insight into local needs and preferences, rather than at the national level, where the unique demands of each community may not be adequately addressed. Consequently, the federal government's endeavor to implement this system, while
This period also saw the growth of part-time work performed by women as an alternative to full-time employment. This enabled women to effectively manage the job-family conflict where they had to juggle between work and family responsibilities. Moreover, women exerted pressure on the Federal Government to provide for childcare facilities. The Federal Government also fostered certain changes that brought about a significant increase in the female labour force participation. In 1966, the Federal Government introduced the Canada Assistance Plan (CAP) to provide for childcare services throughout Canada.
Based on the “American Women: Report of the President’s Commission on the Status of Women” in 1963, working women were an important part of the labor force and the economy. Women were still expected to fulfill their responsibilities as mothers and at the same time be able to fulfill the demands of their jobs so there was a need to expand community services and resources that helped families specifically childcare services. A position paper by the National Organization for Women (N.O.W.) in 1969 stated that “Developmental child care services are a right of children, parents, and the community at large, requiring immediate reallocation of national resources.” The opinions of Americans about mothers’ role as the only caregivers for their children was changing and it was shifting towards being a shared responsibility of the parents and the community by having child care services made available. Even if the bulk of the responsibility was still placed on mothers, it was starting to be expected for fathers to help and child care services were seen as a necessity instead of something harmful to the children’s growth and development.
Canada is one of the countries with the most significant economic and human development in the world. Their rules of living are among the highest in the world, and it is not uncommon to find some of their cities among the reviews that mark them as the best on the planet to live in. But that 's only part of the reality. One of the social reasons that contribute to poverty in Canada is that people who are considered poor, do not have jobs with minimum wages or whose jobs are not fixed or stable (4 out of 10 poor), who are unable to work because of health, disability or being cared for by young children (5 out of 10 poor) and who are unable to find employment (1 out of 10 poor, either because of lack of training, experience or because in their
Learning Outcome 3.4 Every setting has a set of policies and procedures regarding the protection and safeguarding of children. These safeguarding policies will give practitioners guidelines about how they should work with children in a way which protects both the children and the practitioner within their everyday practice in the work setting and on off site visits. This is important as the setting will need to be aware of, and pass on to staff, how they should best protect themselves against incidents of alleged abuse or inappropriate working practices. Policies and procedures for safe working include, for example: • Working in an open and transparent way - It is important that practitioners prevent any situations and protect themselves
McKeen (2006) explains that the framework of the current child welfare approaches was directed from the dominant discourse of ‘national children’s agenda’ initiatives. Since then, there have been many major changes happened in the mainstream social policy in child welfare sector. The national and global political influences and world economic pressure forces federal and provincial governments to control the social security and welfare programs and it reflects in child welfare system too (McKeen, 2006). Politics in Canada has a serious notion on key ideologies while restructuring child welfare policies (McKeen, 2006). Ontario’s Child and Family service Act 1984, was developed on the principle of minimal family intervention with a view that children need to be protected in their own homes (Dumbrill, 2006b).
There are many people who are against universal child care, with the concern of how the government will pay for such a program. However Quebec has proven that this model will actually help the economy flourish - for each dollar spent on child care, $1.75 is given back to the economy due to the large amounts of caregivers, particularly mothers, who will be able to work full time (“7 Perfectly Sensible Reasons...”,
People shouldn’t have to spend $200 or more per week for child care. Taxes should be spent to keep daycares up and running during the day. some families can’t afford extra things like having to pay someone to watch their child but, they work so would need someone to watch the children until they get home. Daycare’s should be funded by the government, It’s important that kids go to daycare because they are getting the materials they need to go off to real school in daycare.
“No way, No How, they don’t do things around the house because it is the female’s job and it is his job to bring home the bacon” (Rubin,1994). I see this a lot with my older relatives, most of the men work 40+ hours and come home to sit on the couch with a beer, while the wife does most of the cooking, and all the laundry. Daycare for most people is a financial expense, that most people struggle with, especially when you’re a low-income family. Per 211 Child Care, “in the state of Connecticut the average cost of day care is $274.00/week” (211 Child Care, 2016). When you multiply that by 4 this equals to $1,096/week, which is $16,440/year.
I choose to view the video clip, Maggie Simpson in “The longest Daycare”. There are some entertaining pieces in the clip one being in the beginning when they test Maggie’s intelligence with the equipment manufactured by Often Wrong Technologies and going through the security check in the beginning. However, the video reveals how society often views people’s intelligence without often knowing how smart that person maybe. Maggie shows her intelligence when she encounters her first case of bullying.
The market is split into three demographic segments young couples, young families and single parents because ultimately it is up to the parent(s)/guardian(s) if they want their child in a daycare center. We hope to reach at least one parent/guardian that is looking to place their child in our institution full-time or part-time care during the day. Full time being a whole day being 11 hours of care and part-time being 7 hours of care. By allowing Single parents full-time care, it would allow them to do what they need to do every day without worrying about child care. Young couples and families will also have the opportunity to get full-time and/ or care if needed to best accommodate their daily
The textbook for this course, Infants, Toddlers, and Caregivers, is based on ten principles for child care that are outlined by researcher Magda Gerber in the 1970’s. The ten principles are based on a philosophy of respect. In addition to the ten principles, a caregiver should know the “Three-R’s” for interaction. The Three R’s are respectful, responsive and reciprocal.
Canada offers free education, healthcare and lastly, it is one of the safest and secure countries in the world. Canada is a great place to live in and one of the greatest reasons is that Canada offers free education to kids from kindergarten to Grade 12. Each province does have certain changes in the there education system but throughout Canada, it is mandatory and free of charge to go to school. The Canadian education system only lets qualified teachers with a university degree to teach in classrooms and classrooms (in public schools) are mixed with boys and girls giving both an equal environment to learn.
