The three prime areas are the foundations for a child’s learning and development, it helps the child’s ability to learn and form relationships as well as their wellbeing. As the children get older they become increasingly competent and need to broaden their skills. This is where the four specific areas aim to do this. A child that is more confident from doing the prime areas will build a better platform for success when starting the more specific areas. The children are all unique and progress at different paces, this should be taken into consideration when planning for a child.
The three key areas of children's development are personal, social and emotional, physical, and speech and language development-the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework refers to them as the three prime areas, (speech and language
1/10 Understanding how children and young people develop 1.1 Explain the sequence and rate of each aspect of development from birth - 19 years. The rate at which all children develop varies from child to child, however the sequence of development is very similar. The ways in which children and young people develop are measured are social, physical, intellectual, communication and emotional development (SPICE).
To understand the development of children and how they grow the best way is to have a physical contact with them. We create an environment for studying cognitive, social/emotional and physical development of any child we chose. The opportunity to interact with children allowed me to see things that prevented the growth of children and improved the growth of children. Carlton academy gave me the opportunity to understand their development. I went to Carlton academy center on Tuesday from 12:00pm to 2:00 pm or 3:00pm and on Thursday from 3:00pm to 5:00pm or 6:00pm.
Cognitive development is mental development. This development includes learning to recite the alphabet, recognize shapes and colors, problem solve, and use words and phrases. Emotional development is learning what feelings are and being able to recognize what they mean and why they happen. Social development is learning how to interact with other people. There are many things and situations that can affect any of these
Explain the importance to children’s holistic development of Speech, language and communication This development is important for children’s holistic development as this will help the children to socialise and help them express what they like and need, this will get them to have more sense about the world. If the child can communicate this will help them with their confident and self-esteem levels as they can talk about how they feel.it is important for children to use their own language skills and not to listen to other all the time and this could put their development back. Adults should praise children a lot so they have the encouragement try new things but it is important you adults to give them feedback so that they can learn from right and wrong.
2/9/17 I enjoyed learning about the first chapter in the Childhood voyages in Development by Spencer A. Rathus. I feel like there was a lot to learn about the early childhood development. Early childhood development goes through four different stages, infancy, early childhood, middle childhood, adolescence. Researches study child development in order to gain an understanding of the child mind. There have been many different researchers who developed theories about the how the mind works.
It is an on going process of interaction between the child and his perceptual view of objects or events. They learn through structured and unstructured activities such as games and having interactions with others. Cognitive and perceptual development cannot proceed independently on each other. The development of cognition begins with the primitive of reflexive behaviors that support survival and early learning in the healthy newborn. Language Development- Development is the process by which children come to understand and communicate language by expressing thoughts and feelings.
However, each child is an individual and his/her physical, emotional, social development is either boosted or restricted by personal factors like genetic health or parentsâ€TM health etc.; and external factors such as the environment they grow up with. All factors have some kind of impact on a growing child and tend to affect all areas of development, not just one. Personal factor Personal factor influence childrenâ€TMs development in many areas. It consist health status, disability, sensory impairment and learning difficulties etc.. Childrenâ€TMs health is really important. Health issues can be genetical which influence how the brain works, e.g. Downâ€TMs syndrome which have impairment of cognitive ability and physical growth.
Language skills Language skill is one of the milestone achievements of the first two years of life. Children are born with innate schema of communication, such as body language or facial expression to communicate with parents or caregiver. The acquisition of language starts from phonology, which is an important skill for a child to master where he or she is to absorb the sound and identify the sounds form one language to another. This was nurtured both at home and in school where Alexander has to absorb sounds from native (Cantonese) and foreign languages (English).
How does the environment affect a child’s brain growth and development? There are five areas of child development. Thus when we talk of development we need to understand the patterns of biological, cognitive and socioemotional changes that a child goes through from birth to lifespan which is why it is important to introduce a child to age appropriate education else a child may not be able to pick up for eg if we introduce a child to writing at an early age he may not be able to do so as he is still developing his fine motor skills. When we talk of biological development it’s the changes in physical growth of the child and is genetically inherited and will also include the brain and motor skill, cognitive will emphasise the child’s ability to think, language development and problem solving skills and the socioemotional development will look at the child’s relationship with other people and changes in ones emotions and personality. There are various stages of development like infancy from birth to about 24 months where the child is completely dependent on the adult where many activities like language development, sensory and motor coordination , social interaction and
Development is a gradual and continuous process. The development of children is greatly influenced through interactions with the family, friends and culture. Children learn from seeing how they are treated, overhearing the interactions of the people around them and observing the things we do all throughout the day. Fully understanding how children grown and change over the course of childhood requires us to look into various child development theories such as psychosocial, cognitive, behaviourist and ecological theories, to name a few.
Child development is an area of significant interest to professionals who deal with children on a daily basis. It is through child development theorists and their theories that we begin to form an understanding of how children develop emotionally and socially to become fully grown adults in society with a moral and emotional compass/. Teachers need to study child development in order to provide developmentally appropriate educational experiences for children. Health professionals also need to understand this area to support children in their physical, social, emotional and cognitive journey to becoming functioning adults in society. Childhood is a concept that is affected by social context and also by history.
