Students who don’t get the required 8 ½ to 9 ½ hours of sleep each night become more vulnerable to depression and obesity, (according to www.npr.org). This can cause problems later in these students’ lives. Think about this; Why should students have to suffer just because school start times are too early? Would you want that to be your child in the
The school board should not add one and a half hours to the school days because, the day is long enough, when will we do our home work, what if we get board and fail the class. Firstly, the day is long enough. Elementary schools already get out earlyer. Middle school is the last school to get out.
When kids are tired, their grades are usually worse than other kids. They don’t think straight or they just mess up. It would be better if school just started after 8:30. There are studies that early is better too. But there are more for later being better.
⅖ of students who go to school who start at 8:00 or earlier only get 6 hours or sleep. And ⅔ of students who go to those schools only get 8 hours or sleep (sleepfoundation.org). Teens should get 9-10 hours of sleep per night so that they can do their very best during the day. If we had late start school, then students could do better in school and then that could affect their entire life. Why do schools start early if there are no benefits?
Introduction: Hours and hours out of your life, when u could go to school at the regular time it was always. I disagree with them making school longer because it would make a kids life boring because we would have less time to do stuff on our own time, we would have a lot less stress, and its long enough as it is. Body Paragraph 1: I feel that they should not make school longer because kids would have alot less stress. Because kids have to deal with 8 sum hours of school, whats the point in making it longer for no reason, all it does is make people stress more.
Schools have way to many periods for one whole day. When you have 8 classes for one day everyday it can be really exhausting for the students. Students can be overwhelmed by work. This is why students think schools should have blocked scheduling.
However, there are only 24 hours in a day, the school already takes up about 8 hours on top of the fact that every kid should get around 10 hours of sleep, which means kids only have 6 hours to do anything else they want to do. If school time increases, then it lessens the time that kids get to spend in the other categories. That may be true, but if kids had longer school days than they would have to worry less about school. There is also a massive amount of time wasted at school when students could be doing other things like their school work or homework. There is an easier way to fix that problem of students eating
School Start Times I think this school needs a later start time. There are many times where students come in tired and not ready to learn. According to the National Sleep Foundation, teens need 8-10 hours of sleep a night to function properly.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, a nonprofit organization that promotes public understanding of sleep and sleep disorders, starting school later is an adequate way for students to have a better memory, behavior, attention, mood, and executive function. The National Sleep Foundation states “, A National Sleep Foundation poll reported that 28% of teenagers have fallen asleep in class at least once due to lack of sleep. Negative effects of sleep loss include impairments in mood, attention, memory, behavior and executive function… increase in caffeine use… sleep deprived-teens at higher risk of car accidents.” This means that by just adjusting the time by an hour students are more aware of their surroundings, more focused on what they’re learning, have a better mood, and executive function, and it reduces the amount of sugary snacks they have eat or drink to stay awake.
And it helps students ability to learn. One reason school times should start later is because it will help students catch up on sleep. “Sleep deprivation has become virtually epidemic among American teenagers. Research suggests that adolescents require about 8.5 to 9 hours of sleep, but according to the National Sleep Foundation, only 14% achieve this goal.” said Julie Peorgers from The Brown University Child and Adolescent Behavior Letter. Not acquiring the recommended amount of sleep can have repercussion of the human body and brain.
Although this could result in students being in school 30 minutes longer it gives them the opportunity to complete some tasks that would cause them stress later that
The school should not be extend their hours to be longer because of sporting events and other school related activities such as band, clubs, and robotics that need the 3:15 released scheduled in order to do these events in the evening so it does not get to late or to dark. It would be a difficult for the kids and teachers to use this scheduled on such short notice and still hopefully be able to do the after school events since the school could be extending schools hours to one and a half an hour long. To begin with, there could be and a problem where the school board needed the school for an important meeting where they needed school to be let out at 3:15 but we are still here cause they extended the school hours to be longer.
I got this information from a website called “Education.seattlepi.com” which says “Leathing the school day will give teachers more time to spend with students, to focus on trouble areas and difficult material.” Other people think we should not have school day because it takes away their family time. I saw this information at “Debate.org”. Debate.org consists of polls, they survey students if they would whether or not, have an 8 hour school day, only 33% say and 67% say no.
Second Persuasive Essay I believe we should have seven periods because we can have longer classes with a longer lunch time, and also one less elective class in a day. Someone who wants eight periods every day would have short classes, but more classes in a day with a shorter lunch time. With seven periods we can have more time in class to work, and more activities in lunch with more time to do them. In a eighth period class days we would have a short lunch time. Sometimes we don’t have enough time to finish lunch and barely have time to do activities.
Clearly, if it makes this much of a difference, why don’t all schools do it? That is a huge jump in math especially. This also shows that students become much better by increasing the amount of hours in a school day. Also, the same article on Reading Rockets also suggests that teachers get to answer students’ questions and many students enjoyed the longer school day. The teachers answering students’ questions help the students understand the material better.
