The Renaissance period was a time of great revival for the arts and knowledge. Leonardo da Vinci was able to expand the fields of both the arts and the sciences during his lifetime, which is why da Vinci is considered a true "Renaissance Man", meaning a cultured man of the Renaissance who was knowledgeable, educated, or proficient in a wide range of fields.
Firstly, Leonardo da Vinci lived a very interesting life.
Born on the 15th of April,1452, in Vinci, Italy Leonardo da Vinci is thought of as the best example of a "Renaissance Man." Da Vinci had very little formal education, however, his artistic talents were evident from an early age. At the age of 14, da Vinci began a lengthy apprenticeship with the artist Andrea del Verrocchio in Florence, from whom he learned a variety of different artistic skills. Leonardo da Vinci is said to have excelled as not only a painter but also an architect and inventor. Valuing education, da Vinci is said to have always been a student to the sciences, saying himself that "learning never exhausts the mind". Leonardo da Vinci achieved many impressive things during his lifetime in the many fields. This is what makes Leonardo da Vinci a "Renaissance Man."

After hundreds of years, da Vinci's paintings are still famous and appreciated by many. Artworks such as the Mona Lisa, the Last Supper and the Vitruvian Man are all by da Vinci. Many have appreciated the subtle beauty of the Mona Lisa, the respectful and spiritual Last Supper and the cleverness of the Vitruvian Man which accurately depicts the anatomy of the male body. These artworks were not only important during the Renaissance period, they are still needed and valued now. This is one reason Leonardo da Vinci is considered a true "Renaissance
