Why Do Video Games Promote Violence?

Around the U.S. many kids and adults play simulated games, whether those being video games or real life games like on the playground and such otherly places. A lot of these games more than likely include some violence, some more than others. Many people may think that these games promote violence, others take the opposite side, they think these games are beneficial. But would you want to put away your games forever? Would this be a violation of rights if it were so? What if I told you that positive messages do include positive messages? This is taught through ownership of the video game GTA V. Grand Theft Auto 5 is an open-world game where you can do anything, you are able to steal cars and own guns to kill people with. These actions very violent. With owning this game, comes great responsibility. Majority of gamers understand right from wrong and so it isn’t a problem playing this or else there would be many lawbreakers and many of the people we know would be homicidal if that was the case. Kids can also learn from this game because their parents can use this game as a way to show them how not to act and the actions portrayed in this game are unethical. In the article “Do Games Like ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ Cause Real-World Violence” it explains how that, “Parents have a huge responsibility to understand and yes, censor, the media their children consume. Adult gamers have a similar responsibility toward their own cultivation of ideas and influences”. In this article, it shows that ownership of the game teaches everyone how to be responsible because controversy around it relates to the topic of censorship. Censorship takes responsibility because your thoughts may hurt others and things we view may harm others emotionally and physically. In the article “High-Jinks: Shootout” it states, “The game’s valedictory message is built into its architecture: school is the safe ground. And, keen as the graduating seniors may be to leave, the game tells them that the world outside is not”. This quote conveys the theme behind this game. This game more actually simulates real life rather than just being a game. It gives them the mindset that after school the world isn’t as safe as the school, it is much dangerous and you may have nowhere to go just as being attacked and trapped in the game shows. In this game, people are assigned to each other to kill, just how in real life may be a serial killer maybe plotting you as their next victim. Another example of games teaching real life is in a quote taken from the article “Do Games Like ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ Cause Real-World Violence?” it states, “Grand Theft Auto V can be viewed as a torture simulator (or strip club simulator) depending on which moments in the game you focus on. Parkin mentions on a forum poster who hoped rape would be included in the game--it isn’t--and imagines a future of games filled with such simulation”. In this statement in the article, it shows that people have the different views of the game like it being a torture simulator. In the forum, they wanted “rape to be included in the game”, if it were included in the game we could use that as a lesson that shows
