Growing up in an urban community, I have been exposed to the different types of drugs there are. I have drug abusers in my family, as well as in a closer proximity, I attend an educational facility with different drug users and abusers who live in the same setting as me. People who are considered to be avid users of a substance can also be classified as having a Substance Use Disorder. Substance use Disorder is a maladaptive pattern of substance use leading to clinically significant impairment or distress. People are diagnosed with SUD when they show a problematic motif of alcohol or other drug use that interferes with their daily functioning or causes significant psychological distress. In the state of New Jersey alone, it has been reported in the most recent Survey, 6.42 percent of New Jersey residents reported using illicit drugs in the past month. 2.73 percent of New Jersey residents reported using an illicit drug other than marijuana in the past month. Although these statistics may not be as high as the drug usage in other states. New Jersey’s counties has higher statistics than most counties in the United States of America. For example if a person were in a severe car accident and injury occurred. The doctor might administer percocets for the pain. This person may take the percocets for the pain temporary and once it ceases, they might continue to take the pill because they enjoy the feeling that the medicine gives off. Substance use disorders can develop from any type of trauma especially sexual abuse, natural disasters, neglect or even terrorism. A person born with an abnormality or disorder, may find that drugs or alcohol soothes their emotions and curves their thoughts about what goes on in their lives pertaining to the
