People turned to dictators during this time because they thought that they could lead them out of the Depression. In document 1 the text reads, “...many saw in him in him already another christ, who predicted the end of their suffering and had the power to lead them into the promised land of they were only prepared to follow him.” This was written about the people listening to Hitler speak. While in document 4 it states, “ Mussolini seemed to them the one man capable of bringing order out of the chaos.” Both of these sources show that the people believed what with a dictator ruling, their country could be led out of the Depression.
In June of 1924, the four-year terror of WWI began, a period of time marked by trench warfare, new Maxim guns, and the aimless massacre of millions. Sparked by deep tensions around the world, the war was fought between two main sides: the Allies and the Central Powers. After years of stalemate, a series of events, including the Russian Revolution and entrance of America into the war, finally brought the genocide to a stop. The Treaty of Versailles was passed, and countries set their eyes on rebuilding- unaware of new issues caused by the war that had just concluded. Moreover, although the Central Powers had finally been subdued by the Allies, “The Age of Anxiety” is a fitting title for the period that followed, which was marked by the global
In summary, the major principles and values of fascism, such as the rejection of democracy, glorification of war, promise of national resurgence, and emphasis on community and discipline, were appealing to Europeans in the inter-war years. This document shows that the rise of fascist ideologies was a problem that led the world from WWI to WWII because the doctrine is claiming that fascism is the best form of government. This could be seen as propaganda and promoting the idea that fascism is the best form of government. This would lead to countries having anxiety about the countries around them with fascism and would cause tension between countries. The Nazis were oblivious about the devastation they caused as they were influenced by one of the most perilous motives: power, and the lack thereof. During the 1930s, the German citizens felt restricted by their circumstances as the country was in a bleak situation. Millions of citizens were affected by “the worldwide economic depression [which] provoked hyperinflation, social unrest and mass unemployment.” Hitler presented his party, the Nationalist Socialist German Workers’ Party or more commonly known as Nazi Party, as the solution to their problems. It is deeply ingrained into human nature that when one is hopeless, one tends to believe whoever offers the slightest amount of hope.
Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany were similar in that both were dictatorships. Both Mussolini and Hitler came to power through legal means and believed that people were divided into either inferior or superior races. For example, Hitler was obsessed with the Aryan race and called for the genocide of Jews during WWII. In addition, both Mussolini and Hitler favored the wealthy, believed that an individual was meaningless and must submit to the decisions of their leaders, and aimed at self-sufficiency so that each could survive entirely without international trade. Furthermore, Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy “had aimed for prestige and power for their countries, and brought instead humiliation and destruction” (Tarr, R.,
In Germany, Adolph Hitler and his Nazi Party promised to restore the country's economy and rebuild its military” ( ). Hitler would bring fascism into Germany, promising that it was the solution to their problems following WW1. With the support he had gained, nothing was stopping his supporters from listening and trusting what he had to say. This would lead Hilter to power with his fascist ideals and lead to the rise of fascism between WW1 and WW2. The rise of fascism in the period between WW 1 and WW 2 was heavily influenced by a complex set of factors.
They would gather the socialists, burn down union and party offices, and also terrorized the local population. Many people called radicals were humiliated, beaten, or killed then in late 1920 the blackshirt squad (another name for the fasces) began to attack local government institutions and prevent administrations to take over the power. When mussolini got wind that he was their inspiration and encouragement he tried to take power over the group and tried to order similar raids over and around Milan. The Fascist movement started to gain a broad amount of support Mussolini began to plan a way to gain power of the national level. By late 1921 the group had controlled a large part of Italy but left during postwar years due to a collapse in the nation.
These movements being innocent in the eyes of the beholders will turn opposite and cold by the end of this historic time period for those involved and historians. Fascism starts in Italy, will later be reshaped into a new government and exposed for the real dangers it could portray. Nazism although just a branch off of fascism, still would not be possible to have been attained without great propaganda techniques and knowledge. Hitler can thank those around him for the support cause without them and without fascism all of this could’ve been
Introduction Despite the common sense believe that fascism is locked in the past before 1945 unfortunately fascists ideas and far right parties continue to exist and to affect the political scenario in Britain throughout the late twentieth century, although hardly able to sustain some success. In a context, that in few countries fascism has reached a consistent experience what explains the fact that, even having fascists groups, in Britain it has failed? Extensive studies have been done about the British fascism in order to define the constant ebb and flow of its level of success and its more likely condition to failure. Mike Cronin in The Failure of British Fascism: The Far Right and the Fight for Political Recognition utilizes the combined
(3) Fascism was attractive because it offered a better future than what the people had. The leaders of fascism learn and understand the needs and wants of the people. Therefore, they said and did what they knew would attract people to their groups. For example, after WWI, Germany economy collapsed, and people became frustrated. Hitler knew he could gain power, by putting fear into the people in regards to the economic meltdown.
FACISM(IDEOLOGY) Fascism is a complex ideology. There are many definitions of fascism; some people describe it as a type or set of political actions, a political philosophy or a mass movement. Most definitions agree that fascism is authoritarian and promotes nationalism at all costs, but its basic characteristics are a matter of debate.
