Did you know that one-third of children are overweight? If that didn’t scare you, this will: two-thirds of adults struggle with obesity. The problem of obesity is becoming an American epidemic, something must be done to handle it.

If obesity rates stay consistent, by 2030, 51 percent of the population will be obese. Twenty years ago, no state had an obesity rate above 15 percent, today there are 41 states with obesity rates over 25 percent. I think that more healthy options of food should be offered for school lunches. This change will bring up the price of the school lunches, however the benefit of being more healthy far outweighs the cost increase.

Since 1980, the rate of obesity in children and adolescents has almost tripled. 72% of older men and 67% of older women are now overweight or obese. School vending machines are packed with candy and junk food that tempt students to buy sugar-packed snacks that increases their cholesterol, can give them heart disease, overloads their liver, and has a unique fat-promoting effect. …show more content…

If we ate healthier in school we would be more focused and ready to learn. It is truly sad to think about how many people in the U.S. alone struggle with obesity.
