Field Experience Essay

849 Words4 Pages

I conducted my field experience at the York Academy Regional Charter School. This was in Miss Mingle’s third grade classroom. The lessons I normally observed and helped with were math, science and guided reading. During these lessons, Miss Mingle integrated technology effectively and always made sure the technology was not straying from the purpose of the lesson. The first way a technology-facilitated activity stood out to me was when Miss Mingle used the Apple TV and iPad. Miss Mingle used this during a science lesson about erosion. Not every student could see the demonstration at the same time. So, Miss Mingle set the demonstration in the back of the room and projected it on the whiteboard. Miss Mingle also recorded the demonstration so the …show more content…

The objectives of my lesson were for the students to be able to multiply, divide, do word problems and understand place values. I projected a math equation on the whiteboard and the students solved it on their own whiteboards. When the student had an answer, they showed it on their Plickers card and I scanned it in using an iPad. The Plickers app went well in my lesson because it worked as planned and there were no other malfunctions. The class was also familiar with how to use Plickers, so this helped the lesson run smoothly. Also, the students could tell me what they learned at the end of the lesson and even give me their own examples of how to use multiplication and division in the real world. I feel the lesson was successful because the students grasped what the purpose of the lesson was and could even create their own situations to the real world, which indicates the use of higher order thinking skills in Bloom’s Taxonomy. I would improve my time management skills. My lesson went over 20 minutes and I should have been more aware of the time. Next time, I will make the introduction of my lesson shorter. I will also give the students a time limit for solving a problem. For example, I will give the students 45 seconds to solve a simple word problem and have their Plickers card ready for me to scan. I will then increase the time as the problems become more
