Humans have harmed the environment by releasing hazardous chemicals to create a “solution” for climate change. In the 1950s, engineers, scientists, and environmentalists started creating technologies that produce renewable energy. One of the technologies they developed and promoted was solar energy. This technology produces renewable energy from the sun that is harnessed using different technologies such as solar panels. The panels are used to power buildings by converting sunlight to energy. Solar fields is “a way to farm” the sun by buying land and putting multiple solar panels to harness solar energy. While solar energy helps the environment, solar panels harm the environment when manufactured and disposed of by releasing greenhouse …show more content…
Here in more information “Depending on their location, larger utility-scale solar facilities can raise concerns about land degradation and habitat loss. Estimates for utility-scale PV systems range from 3.5 to 10 acres per megawatt, while estimates for CSP facilities are between 4 and 16.5 acres per megawatt. Unlike wind facilities, there is less opportunity for solar projects to share land with agricultural uses.”("Environmental Impacts of Solar Power" 2013) Solar farms take use of valuable land and this disturbs the ecosystem of that area. Animals are going extinct almost every day because of habitat loss. For example, “ this reduces grasslands which affects the nesting areas of prairie chickens.” (Solar farms) This is bad for the environment because we are wasting the limited land that we have on the earth and are taking away …show more content…
For example “Many experts believe that solar cell technology may be a key to generating energy without destroying natural resources in the future.” (Cengage ) This is the upside of using solar energy it helps create reusable energy without destroys our nonrenewable sources. “Electricity production is responsible for a large percentage of all carbon emissions in the United States. Going solar helps to reduce the effects of carbon emissions and greenhouse gas emissions because the electricity that solar panels produce have zero emissions ( Cengage). This opinion says that solar panels are good for the environment because they help reduce carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. However solar panels do create emissions when manufactured and harm the
