There has been a struggle between gender equality for many centuries. According to (Bush, 2016), the United States ranks 28th out of the 145 countries in the world ranking of equality for women. With the help of brave women, influential law makers, and persistence we are able to alter the unbalance of fairness and opportunities for women in the work place. We strive for equality not only in the work place but in all aspects of life. Although gender equality has come a long way in the past decade, there still is a substantial gap with fairness in the work place. We are able to close this gap only if everyone has the same goal: equality for all men and women.

This philosophical change encouraged many women to become what they are today. However, how are we able to remove this handicap completely out of today’s society? We must be open minded to the evolution of our workplace and who we believe should be present. According to (Bush, 2016), President Barack Obama, right after being sworn into office, signed into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. This act disables discrimination on gender based wages. However, the Paycheck Fairness Act has since not been passed by Congress. It is astounding that with all the progress our country has made in the past century, is still not completely free of discrimination. With making individuals more aware of this ongoing effort we can perhaps lower the number of effected women. Although America has difficulty with gender equality, many barely thrive outside our boarders. According to (“Knowledge center » facts & figures » equality,” 2016), women work two thirds of the world’s hours, yet earn only one tenth of the worlds income. This is a prime example of the inequality of gender everywhere. Women worldwide face discrimination based gender alone and yet nothing extreme is being done.
