Different cultures around the world develop their own technologies to satisfy their shared and individual wants, values, and needs. Technology can be connected with and shaped by systems of society, including but not limited to family, the economy, political, education, and politics. American transportation systems are more focused on freedom and independence, while other cultures might focus on the convenience and speed correlated with mass transportation systems. In America, the absence of a mass transit system is due to to corporate influence. Automobile and Oil companies have made mass transit systems not an option because it would decrease their profits by a large margin. This might be one of the reasons America does not have high speed trains like other countries.
