The client had an L-hemisphere CVA on 8/11/10. After the stroke, the client was admitted for a 5 day acute care hospitalization and then into an inpatient rehab setting for six weeks for one hour every day. Through a speech evaluation, the client was diagnosed with a mild anomic aphasia and mild apraxia of speech. The client 's goals are to improve her mobility, communication, and return home. This session was a re-assessment six months after she was discharged from the inpatient rehab setting.
I recently had the opportunity to join a classroom at Horseshoe Trails Elementary school and observe a boy that will be referred to as Nick. Before the observation began I was able to speak with Nick’s teacher and obtain some background information about his development over the past year, his daily issues, as well as some family history. Nick is currently in second grade and has been struggling in the classroom for a multitude of reasons. For example, he has an individualized education program (IEP). In addition, he experiences issues with speaking clearly and concisely, due to a minor stutter.
Taking into consideration that most of Susie’s social/emotional challenges were the identified barriers interfering with Susie’s learning. In order to ensure that Susie was adequately supported it was determined her short-term goals would be helping her create a coping skills toolbox (create a toolbox and for her to put on paper skills she can utilize). We also realized she experienced several worries, in order for her to stay on task during the day she would need to put her focus on the present and not be worrying (worry box-write all her worries down and put in box-once a day she is permitted 10 minutes to open the box and read each worry-decide if she has any control over that worry-decided how she can move through it-keep or discard). We felt it was important that she build a strong support system so that when she is feeling overwhelmed, is having urges she can reach out for help. Each of Susie’s teachers were contacted explaining her daily challenges are and how they can check in with her and offer support when needed.

These APPE sites expose students to innovative healthcare delivery systems and treatment protocols. The majority of the sites are located in various areas of California, representing various segments of the general society, including medically underserved areas. Throughout the APPE curriculum, students will be exposed to diverse patient populations. Students will be expected to deliver evidence-based care to patients of diverse cultural, economic, geographic, and/or disease state-related backgrounds. Most APPE rotations will have a focus on interprofessional interaction and practice.

According to the United States Department of Education, “ADHD’s core symptoms-inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity-make meeting the daily rigors of school challenging.” (Zentall, 1993, U.S. Department of Education, para.3). With inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity being the core symptoms of ADHD is what causes a child to become frustrated. Once a child becomes frustrated it tends to start affecting their school work and also their behavior in the classroom. There are ways that the teacher can help with a child’s frustration by, “structure the student’s environment to accommodate his or her special needs.”
Improving the community will always be a priority for me. I do some of many community services with the National Honor Society. As President, one has to manage and plan for different volunteer events. We have been part of Boo at the Zoo and For the Love of the Lake. The biggest accomplishment we have planned was the Christmas Party for AIDS Service of Dallas.
What symbolizes death? Symbolism is a way in which people can hide their true thoughts with another image or words as a distraction. The story "The Masque of the Red Death" by Edgar Allen Poe contains an immense amount of symbolism throughout the entire story, including the clock, the masquerade party, and the masked figure. This story in its entirety can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning or lesson. Poe's story speaks of party guests hiding from a disease thought to be the plague, and the whole time, they are partying and trying to cheat death.
When we started this course I was intimidated that I would not be able to grasp all the topics and that I would not be able to get a good grade in this class. This did not affect me though as I gave my all in this class, I submitted all the assignments and made sure I understood the concepts learned in each assignment. This course required a lot of time and effort as it was a session B course and was completed over a period of 8 weeks. I also developed skills of persistence, flexibility and responsibility by completing my assignments on time each week. The objective of this course was to grow as a writer and through each assignment I feel like I have learned something new and grown as a writer.
Teachers can also evaluate using Conners Third Edition (Conners 3), the Teacher Rating Scale section (appropriate for children age 6-18). A variety of classroom factors should be considered when providing accommodations and creating the student’s IEP. Modifying the classroom for a student with a hyperactive-impulsive type of ADHD can be as feasible as simple as giving students the freedom to stand during work instead of sit, or get up from the seat every 5-10 minutes or using instructional activities that incorporate movement (e.g. role plays) are beneficial (Turnbull et al.,
In my life athletics and associated activities have almost always played a big role. This steadily became more true and evident in my time attending Moss Point HighSchool. Through multiple activities in Navy Junior ROTC I have learned that aside from enjoying athletic competitions the things I have learned in relation to how exercise and dieting effect my overall health. Because of this I have started to take better care of myself and exercised more to help stay healthy and do my best to have a well rounded diet. Also, I have learned how terrible processed sugars are for one’s body and slowly eliminated most of the processed sugars from my diet.
The purpose of this memo is to give a detailed report on the success of my completed projects as well as the status on ongoing projects. Throughout this report I will discuss any questions or concerns I have with projects that I have done or that I am still working on. I will also provide an illustration of the status of each project that has been assigned in the form of a chart. The report will then go on to discuss my future plans for how I plan to complete projects that are currently incomplete.
My fieldwork setting is Missouri Delta Medical Center Acute Care inpatient Rehab. My fieldwork educator collaborates with three other disciplines regularly. She often co-treats with physical therapy and speech therapy specialists. In addition, she discusses medications and other treatments with nursing and occasionally with the attending doctor.
