The brand-new 2016 Ford GT is Ford’s new project car ten years in the making, but is it better than the first generation? Ford has only made one supercar, the Ford GT. Ford only produced the car in 2005 and 2006 but have newly revamped it in more ways than one. Ford has created a completely different car. For example, in 2005 and 2006, Ford put a huge 5.4 Liter supercharged V8 in the GT that cranked out 550 horsepower, unfortunately, it really weighed the car down bringing the first generation to a curb weight of 3,485 pounds. However, in the 2016 model, Ford has replaced the huge V8 with a lighter, faster, and more economical 2.5 Liter EcoBoost® Twin Turbo V6. Nevertheless, the engine is smaller, but it produces almost a hundred more horsepower, …show more content…
These two different engine sizes in the two different weights greatly affect the performance. On one hand, the heavier V8 tops out at about 205 miles per hour, and chugs along from zero to sixty miles per hour in 3.9 seconds. On the other hand, the lighter V6 comes up just shy on the V8’s top speed at 200 miles per hour but blows away its zero to sixty coming in at 3.2 seconds. Although the engines and their performances are different, they are both located in the back of the vehicles and are rear-wheel-drive cars. However, the engines connect to the rear wheels with different transmissions. The V8 is connected to an all manual six-speed transmission while the V6 is connected to an all automatic seven-speed transmission. The extra gear on the new generation’s transmission is what helps the 2016 Ford GT reach sixty miles per hour quicker than the first generation does. Not only have the internal aspects improved, but there is also been a big aerodynamic improvement. The first generation was fairly aerodynamic with a fixed wing, and multiple air scoops, but the new generation has an adaptive spoiler with a lot more air scoops, drastically improving
