In The Lost Boy by Dave Pelzer, David, an abused boy, struggles through foster care. To begin, mother and father get into a deadlock and father says David shouldn’t have to go through this abuse anymore. In addition, mother thinks it would be best if he just leaves, so David leaves and goes to a bar. There he meets an officer who takes him back to his house because he said he will be missed by his family. The officer soon finds out why David has run away so he calls the foster care center and David is being put in a foster home. There he met a lady named Lillian, she preferred if David calls her mom, but he doesn’t feel comfortable calling her mom yet because he just met her. David really likes the foster care mostly because he doesn’t have to salvage for food anymore, but the older kids were calling him a wimp for not defending himself and fighting his mother back. Meanwhile, David was taken to court to decide whether or not he wants to stay in foster care, he decides to stay so that he will not have to go through the abuse any longer. Along the way they passed his old house where his brothers were outside playing, when they saw them his brothers went straight to tell their mother. Mother called Lillian and told her to keep David away from her house or he would be taken to another foster care. Lillian didn’t want them to take him away so for his punishment David was grounded. Lillian told David to get up very early tomorrow since his dad was coming to see him so they could spend some time together. The next morning David got up and ready and was waiting at the door for hours. Lillian told him not to bother anymore because he is probably not going to come; this made David wonder if his dad even loves him
