Sending crime rates plummeting, eliminating student debts, and increasing a person’s quality of life, what could do all these things? The answer is simple, offering a free college education for everyone by using our taxes to fund education for all Americans. A college education should be open to everyone as not only is it beneficial to the individual, but society as well. American society is facing massive problems today including, student debt, a declining economy, and high crime rates.
These issues are affected by the lack of education many Americans receive. Many people finish high school or obtain a GED, but never pursue any higher level of education. Why is this? Some may say that people do not have the drive or the desire to pursue academic knowledge any further than high school, but this is simply not the case. The way our education system is set up discourages people from seeking higher learning because of high tuition fees and excessive finical assistance stipulations. “Student loans definitely hold back borrowers financially. And, by extension, the economy.” Spending helps to boost our economy, but individuals who are already swamped in student loans are more likely to be frugal with their spending. Graduates already being in debt sometimes even consider holding off on large purchases such as buying a home. Some would argue that student debt is a good thing. That it allows in the long run for individuals to obtain higher paying careers make and thus allow for more spending thus moving our economy forward. It is true that having a college education opens up the door to higher paying jobs and that this is a positive for our economy. The problem lies in what we have to sacrifice to get there.
