Just like that another school year comes to an end and students across the world are to get away from educational responsibilities, but why do so many see their education as a chore rather than embrace the opportunity to learn? As an American, the view of education seems to have become broken along the way. The view of higher education was once heralded as the pinnacle of enlightenment deeming those able and willing to learn to reach new levels of cognitive thought process has now become a system built around the growing complexity of the job market. Somewhere along the way we have taken what was once an institution for higher learning and shifted it into a means of job training to fill the needs of employers. Looking to our global peers for a comparison in our primary educational prospects the U.S. finds itself somewhere in the middle of the pack behind other similar advanced industrial nations. Most of these countries find their students comprehension in math, science, and reading significantly higher than the United States (PewResearch). For a country whose citizens consider it be the best country throughout the world why do they not consider the younger generations, who will eventually take control of the reigns, a priority in terms of education? One of the largest factors in the downward spiral of American education is that as students start to fall behind in their studies it becomes increasingly difficult to comprehend the following material which leads to an interesting aspect not generally taken into consideration, the moral of the student. As their moral sinks their embarrassment rises, and school no longer becomes a place of interest. In contrast our Asian neighbors attempt to stop the problem before it gains momentum. All students must take assessments in math and literacy before they are able to enter the education
