Finally, I began writing about my genre—developmental collaborative writing on a whiteboard—and gave its purpose followed by a few links. These links lead to the descriptions of my genre’s audience, rhetorical factors, structure, and style of writing; with all of the information presented on my website there should be a good enough description of developmental collaborative writing to help my fellow classmates understand what it is. At the beginning of major writing assignment number one I began my thought process by plotting out how
U.S. Army veteran Jessica Higgins of Merrimack was 22 when she got married. She had just returned home from a deployment to Iraq, and was having a difficult time transitioning. “I got married quickly because I thought that it would solve all of my problems when, in fact, it ended up creating many more,” she said. Her husband became abusive, and it took the birth of her daughter for Higgins to gather the strength to leave. With her three-week-old daughter in tow, Emma, she left California and moved back home to New Hampshire six years ago to create a new life.
Why do people write? Why is it that we share our thoughts, opinions, advises, stories and experiences through the written word, and why don’t we just transmit all of this by word of mouth? Aside from the purpose of saving information or knowledge on paper, we end up expressing our selves via written words more strongly and accurately than we do verbally. You can come to know people better through reading their work, this is because you cannot lie to that piece of paper in front of you and well why should you?
Writing is a good way to help us learn about the world around us. It opens a door for us to understand one another, but most importantly, to understand our Creator. Since the time of the oldest alphabet to today's modern alphabet, it has been the most important discovery that helped early man learn about one another. Writing can change someone's ideas or can help them see something from another point of view. Writing may help you to speak your mind without the fear of others direct criticism.
“Learning to Read and Write” and “Freewriting” both accomplish the act of trying to express freedom of thought. With free expression, people are able to express themselves through writing. Not only does expressing the self through writing empower a person, but it also acts as motivation. Learning new things and trying to express them through writing down thoughts helps individuals understand themselves. Writing is what makes each individual different.
It is much easier to for them to write down what they are feeling than actually tell someone or say it out loud. Even if no one reads what they wrote at least they are able to write their feelings down and hopefully accept them. Writing also helps people discover the truth about themselves. Truth is something that is true or real and can be something that one does not want to discover or be true about themselves or others, such as events or feelings. Sometimes things just keep coming to the writer’s mind and they realize something that they have been trying to hide from others or even themselves.
Emergent self-knowledge of personal writing influences how approaches will be taken to develop writing skills in students. Utilisation of a writer’s journal enables emerging writers to understand relationships between the purpose of a journal activity and the intended audience (Bishop, 1996, p.34). Acknowledgement of self-emergence as a writer enables the author to include additional information into their work for clarity of the text, therefore enhancing that knowledge attained, ensuring the writer understands the importance of skills associated with writing polished pieces of writing. It is important for educators to have a refined understanding of language and how it works. Research shows the more understanding an educator has on developing writing skills in their students, the task involved will become less complicated, resulting in meaningful learning experiences for students (Loane & Muir, 2017, p. xviii).
She also states that it helps kids develop different skills. Healy wrote that kids develop an ability to communicate. People need to communicate with others. For example what if there in need or in danger.
1). Why study writing? In my opinion, we study writing for two reasons, the first is to continue to improve the writing skills that we have already acquired and used every day. The second is to learn and understand new concepts and types of writing that have developed over time and by doing so rendering ourselves better prepared to communicate in different situations.
As a student myself, I understand the dislike for writing and the idea that it's not as useful as other things. This piece shows students that writing is so much more than that, but you can only see this if you understand the purpose and
Their are quite whispers of what people are going to write about. We start at the front of the class; most kids talking about where they went on vacation. It comes around to me and I stand up “My name is Sadie and I went to the pride festival in Iowa City this summer”. Everyone around the room looks at each other and then starts to laugh. “That’s enough.” said Mr. S
Throughout my education, writing strategies persisted to be a challenge for me. I dreaded writing because I could never find ways to transition my thoughts from my mind to the paper. Ironically, a class that petrified me due to the amount of required writing ended up helping me in numerous ways. English 1301 and my professor prepared me for college and real life by giving me a foundation of effective learning strategies.
