This semester was filled with many bumpy roads. I struggled in the beginning of the semester with my writings , as I didn 't feel confident enough to write a well developed writing. I seemed to find myself struggling whereas writing was not my favorable subject. The major errors I had in my writings this semester would be , grammatical errors, work citations, transition words, formatting ,paragraph development, sentence structure , and sentence level issue. Therefore I have set goals to improve my writing in the future.
After finishing my letter addressed to Mr. Robison, I was asked to evaluate the process I used while writing this. In this essay I will be addressing specific questions that lead me to critique and analyze my piece of writing. These five questions to be specific, are a reflection of my growth, improvement that needs to be addressed, defining a revision process, and what I still have to learn. To begin with I would like to discuss what has changed since my first essay was written. For one, I've learned to cut words out and get to the point.
When reflecting on this school year I see how much I have improved. From my first writing to now. I see that now I write more fluently. I have learned how to write in MLA and APA formatting. I have learned how to delegate myself from distractions when writing.
My Writing Process Characterization is the craft element that gives my work the most impact. Characterization helps me convey information about my characters. It clearly portrays the behavior of each character either through their actions or speech. Description of the characters’ appearance and explaining their mannerism helps me built my plot. Through characterization my audience is able to know the characters and understand their impact in the development of the plot.
My writing skills developed when I was a Customer Service Technician at VeriSign, Inc. (1997-2004). I provided customer support for telecommunication companies. My customer base included a variety of customers: e.g. long distance carriers, local telephone companies, cellular carriers, and their service providers. In this position I learn many ways to communicate in writing. I learn to write for my audience.
Writing The Writing 121 course presented a lot of challenges that I had to overcome in order to become better as a writer. One thing I found very challenging, was adjusting rhetorical situations to a given condition. When writing the Inquiry paper, I had trouble finding what subject geared toward other college students to write about, while trying to keep concepts like Kairos, Ethos, and Pathos in mind. Another challenge I had to face was organizing the word choice in my papers.
As a writer I know that it is necessary to take others ' feedbacks as a reflection of my writing process. Throughout the semester, I take my peers ' comment very seriously because it is the only way to know how good my writting skill is, how professional I am, and what kind of flaws I need to fix. I have used those comments intensively to fix my Issue Proposal essay, as well as my Exploratory essay. I believe that those comments are the reasons help my paper more compelling and effective. One thing I notice is that the comments remind me the errors that I have overlooked.
I have enjoyed this class. My big take from this course will be the improvements had to my writing process. Learning items such as brainstorming, clustering, outlining and the usefulness of a first draft, I feel my writing is improved. This will fulfill the last requirement of the course, as I have completed and submitted all the others. Thank you for an enjoyable and beneficial eight weeks together.
Taking the time to look back at my writings from the beginning of the year I realized there were many things I needed to improve on. From little things like grammar and mechanics, to descriptive word choice and organization. Throughout the year I have developed many strengths and held on to some weaknesses. Reflecting back I noticed there are sets of things that need to be addressed. I had many weaknesses this year as a writer.
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
There are several different styles of writing and learning, and if an individual knows their style of each, it can help them improve on their learning and writing skills. My method of writing is free-writing, I tend to start writing, and not stop until I finish. Similarly, I tend to learn best by absorbing a great deal of information at once, then going back and processing it. My learning and writing styles greatly influence each other, with my learning style helping improve my writing style. Since I was a child, everything I wrote was done using a free-writing technique.
ENG-122 Reflective Essay My writing process has changed tremendously over the course of this class. I feel more accomplished, confident and I feel sometimes that my ideas and thoughts just come in to my mind out of nowhere and I start writing about anything now. I pay attention to my punctuation and grammar more as I have polished them more now, not only when I write but then others write as well. I am constantly looking for errors and I highly think this is helping me a lot in my career.
Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. Through class exams, essays, and a research paper, I was able to learn new writing skills. Although I have learned a variety of things, my writing still needs improvement.
When I was younger, I never looked forward to writing because it seemed like such a tedious task. However, as I grew older I realized that writing could be an experience of its own and could serve as a way in which I could showcase my thoughts, opinions, and point of views. Perhaps I struggled with writing because it is essentially a skill that one has to develop with time as opposed to something that someone is born with. My main strength when it comes down to writing is definitely organization. I tend to organize the writing process from the beginning because it allows me to have a clear understanding on what it is I will write.
Writing project 3 has shown me the importance of writing something that is of interest for you, an issue that you are passionate about. I think that I have started to get somewhat better at the structuring of my writing and using outlines before I jump into a draft. I am no longer as scared and hesitant to write, as I was the first writing project. I think a good goal that I accomplished from this project was using diverse sources in my writing. I was able to utilize a magazine post, newspaper article and research journals to form my argument and provide support.
