Mrs. Weaver, When I create my first draft I do so by freewriting, technique in which I write continuously for a set period of time without regard to spelling, grammar, or topic. The final product is not even a thought in my brain. The process is my main focus; the process is emptying my brain of all excess ideas, gibberish, and irrational thoughts. I start writing with typically multiple perspectives and/or ideas. When I complete my freewriting, I realize which perspective and ideas I will be using in my writing.
I am currently a teenager whose writing has developed significantly over the past few years. In fact, my writing was absolutely shocking when I was younger; it was only recently that it has improved. From about year 6, I noticed that my writing was not very good, especially when I found out the importance of using punctuation. Yes, I did not use commas AT ALL. Also, my vocabulary choices were practically always informal, and I was never able to judiciously incorporate effective language into my sentences.
Looking back at the writing I have produced throughout this course, I am able to see the areas where I continue to grow and the places that have yet to reach its full potential. By analyzing my writing, this has helped me become aware of my strengths, but also notify me of my weaknesses that need improvement. I have come along way as a writer since enrolling in this course, but there still is room for plenty of improvement. Over this past course, I have found the correct things that have worked for me and the wrong ones that do not.
So, to make a difference this time I wanted to expand from what I learned from last class. I do feel like I did better but there is still much for me to learn. Even though this is my second time taking this course I still do not believe I am comfortable with my writing skills. This reflects in my post as well because most are just simple and get rid down to the details instead of elaborating. However, compared to my last semester my writing has improve significantly and has shown in my reflection posts.
I hope this semester has been good to you. The purpose of this letter is to offer meaningful reflections on the past semester from being enrolled in your composition course. This course has made me a stronger writer and has provided me with skills I will be able to use outside of the classroom once I graduate. In this letter, I will discuss how “writing as a process” has positively affected my writing, how past assignments have shaped my writing, and finally, closing thoughts as this course comes to an end.
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
Starting off the year, I was and still am, very intimidated of a college level writing course. Since it was an engineering based writing class, my worries eased up a bit. When I attended the first class I didn’t know anything over the technical communication writing style. Slowly I developed an understanding over the writing style by reading the text book and other supplemental readings. When our group (Construction Management and Nursing) was assigned with the first group project, I was able to apply what I’ve learned so far in the class.
ENG-122 Reflective Essay My writing process has changed tremendously over the course of this class. I feel more accomplished, confident and I feel sometimes that my ideas and thoughts just come in to my mind out of nowhere and I start writing about anything now. I pay attention to my punctuation and grammar more as I have polished them more now, not only when I write but then others write as well. I am constantly looking for errors and I highly think this is helping me a lot in my career.
What does writing mean to me? Writing means getting people engaged in your piece. It means people wanting to keep reading what you wrote. The biggest thing about writing to me is expressing your thoughts and letting your mind go. Using good word choice and having a strong voice in the writing is something that makes it good.
Learning new skills in writing has assisted in so many over ways than just writing for school, it has helped in my career. Writing is such a beneficial trait to hold. I plan to improve day by day. I have so many opportunities available and plan to use to my full
Writing project 3 has shown me the importance of writing something that is of interest for you, an issue that you are passionate about. I think that I have started to get somewhat better at the structuring of my writing and using outlines before I jump into a draft. I am no longer as scared and hesitant to write, as I was the first writing project. I think a good goal that I accomplished from this project was using diverse sources in my writing. I was able to utilize a magazine post, newspaper article and research journals to form my argument and provide support.
