Who caused the death of Romeo and Juliet? The characters, Romeo and Juliet, affected Verona by having their families come together from a feud that has been going on for thousands of years. Friar Lawrence is the one to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death because he married them, gave Juliet the potion, and promised Juliet that he and Romeo would be there when she awakes from her “death.” One good reason Friar Lawrence is responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet is because he is the one who married Romeo and Juliet when he knew their families were enemies.
