The Funding of Space Exploration
The final number for the funds that go to space exploration and to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is definitely a very big number. $19,025.1 billion to be exact. Although this is a big number, the United States have actually cut some of the funds from NASA. The history of space exploration proves that the United States needs to keep giving NASA the funds they need. From new knowledge on our solar system, other solar systems, space in general, to new inventions and products, the U.S. should not be cutting NASA’s funding, and should be giving them the money they need. Joystick controllers were developed from space technology. Joystick controllers are used for many things in our lives, including computer and console games and vehicles for people with disabilities. These devices evolved from research to develop a controller for the Apollo Lunar Rover, and from other NASA research into how humans actually operate (Erikson, 2012). Invisible braces were also made from space technology. These teeth-straightening braces use brackets that contain a nearly invisible translucent (almost see-through) ceramic material. This material is just like NASA's advanced ceramic research to develop new, tough materials for spacecraft and aircraft (Erikson, 2012). Ski boots were also made from space technology. These ski boots use accordion-like folds, just like the design of space suits, to allow the boot to flex without distortion, yet still give support and control for precision skiing (Erikson, 2012). Cordless tools were also made from space technology. Portable, self-contained power tools were originally developed to help Apollo astronauts drill for moon samples. This technology has lead to development of such tools as the cordless vacuum cleaner, power drill, shrub trimmers, and grass shears (Erikson, 2012). New inventions are a huge benefit from going to space. Finding new things to make products are chances we cannot pass
