In the food industry the acronym GMO is the most controversial topic. Most people in America do not understand what a genetically modified food (GMO) really is so they are afraid to accept the fact that they are not harmful to the extent the social mind thinks. Organic foods are grown and processed without synthetic chemical fertilizers and/or pesticides (What). In laymen’s terms GMO’s are when you put another gene into a food DNA to make it better in some way being resistance, supplements, taste or looks (CBS news). Although humans have been genetically modifying things for many centuries it has been scrutinized under the public eye as being bad because they feel disgusted about the process when in reality genetic modification was the only way to save some of the popular foods we have in our culture. Genetically modified foods are not necessarily frakenfoods. In the story of Designer Livestock, GMO’s were used in pigs since the pigs could not digest phosphorus. Scientists fused a gene between cows and pigs creating a transgene. With this addition, it eliminated high cost of adding mineral phosphorus or commercially produced …show more content…

In an article by Jane Wells she claims that although the process of organic is natural not all natural products are good for the environment and plant and that there are alternatives better than natural products so organic actually has nothing to do with health or environment. Organic is just supposed to be a safer process. Which doesn’t mean other things can not affect you in the long run. It is also more expensive buying from an organic farmer this being that more time is spent helping the plants grow without the use of synthetic products. In some cases, it would be great to buy organic but if one doesn’t make a difference than the conventional farmers food I do not believe it should be stressed to always buy
