I am currently aware that due to my academic record, it illustrates that I did not reach the minimum academic qualifications for participation in the UC Education Abroad Program for Italy+Spain 2018. Therefore, I am putting forward this letter as a reconsideration for my application for participation in the UCEAP. This past Spring semester, I made the sudden decision and consider wanting to study abroad. I recognize that my present grades are not to your satisfactory, but they do not reflect the student I am. I would like to share the reasons why I have not yet met the GPA requirement. Once I found the motivation to pursue a Sociology major, I took actions to change my academic performance and grow as a person for professional reasons. For instance, I stayed committed in completing semester requirement that were assigned to me from a program and strove for student success as a STEP Scholar. I took the initiative to get out of my comfort zone and work at a restaurant to learn and gain more knowledge on how to interact with a range of different individuals from a diverse community. As a Sociology major, I am dedicating my time to develop proficient communication skills for a very diverse background; for instance, culturally, languages, perspectives, and knowledge because I want to make a change in the Labor Movement. It requires an open-minded individual with proficient communication skills to acquire such a change. Coming from a Latin background, it has influenced my interest on social hierarchies and how they continue to persist in today’s society. It will be a great benefactor to help expand my knowledge and perspectives on my major, Sociology.
