“Family means noone gets left behind or forgotten” (Stiers, n.d.). This is a quote used in many movies about family. It is also a quote that I live by. Family is not about a mom and a dad and a child . A family is about loving, caring for and nurturing for an individual. If one single person can do this for an individual then why can’t same-sex couples do it also? That is the problem they can do it, society just will not let them do it. Society needs to accept the new era and let same-sex couples adopt children to make their families and hearts complete.
The LGBT community has been fighting for equal rights since the 1900s. With this fight there has been hatred and violence toward them. “It's the same hate that has caused wars from religion.

Children are moved into foster care systems and many even await adoption for many years while the courts try to make decisions for their futures (Chittom & Wagner, n.d.). The North American Council on Adoptable Children states that there are about 520,000 children in foster care and of that 520,000; 120,000 are available for adoption, but only 50,000 find permanent homes each year (Chittom & Wagner, n.d.). Chittom and Wagner state that gay adoption puts children who are at risk for greater trauma (Chittom & Wagner, n.d.). It also states that a child being exposed to only one gender will not be raised with a balanced understanding of gender roles and their own gender identity (Chittom & Wagner, n.d.). Same-sex couples are not going to not allow their child to interact with people of the opposite gender of them, so the point that they will only be exposed to one gender is invalid (Chittom & Wagner, n.d.). In the essay by Chittom and wagner they prove no statistics to back up the case that the children of same-sex couples will have more psychological problems. Gay rights advocates point to studies where it shows that children raised by homosexual parents are no worse off than children in traditional family homes (Wilson, 2015). The children of single parents are raised by one gender and grow up just fine understanding gender roles. Two parents is better than one even if the two are of the same gender. Some ask why do adoption laws matter? Why do they not just do it under the table and adopt? Well because A parent who adopts a child makes a legal and financial and emotional commitment that helps to ensure the health and well being of the child or children (Driscoll, 2015). Adopted children are entitled to health insurance benefits earned by parents, to hospital visitations by both parents, and to inheritances upon the death of the parent(s) (Driscoll, 2015). In divorce cases the parents are entitled to child support and custody rights, and property settlements that will also help benefit the child or children (Driscoll, 2015). When a separated or divorced partner moves to a different state that discriminates against same-sex couples and same-sex adoption he or she may be prevented from continuing the parenting relationship that was created back in a more progressive state that was accepting of it (Driscoll, 2015). Both the parent and the child or children may come upon both emotional and economic problems (Driscoll, 2015). The American Psychological Association strongly supports second-parent adoptions because the mental health risks are otherwise too great (Driscoll,
