Has gender inequality really changed since the 1930s? Why are men more powerful than women? Is there an equal pay between men and women? Who has a better job opportunity? Gender inequality has changed very little since the 1930s in terms of power, pay, and job opportunities. Men continue to have more power than women. Most CEOs are male; you are more likely to find a male CEO over a woman CEO. According to CNNMoney analysis, only 14.2 percent of women hold a high position in a company. This is a very low percentage of women CEOs. Also according to CNNMoney,”Out of 500 companies, there are only 24 female CEOs”. In 1930 women were not allowed in the jury,”’...Miss Maudie can’t serve on a jury because she’s a women-”’(Harper Lee, 221). In To Kill a Mockingbird there were not any females who served on the jury. Atticus consider not having women in the jury as, “‘[protecting] our frail ladies…”’(Lee, 221). This statement shows that women were considered weak and fragile since 1930. Some may say that the job opportunities have developed since the 1930s by letting women get a job. However, it is unlikely for a female to get chosen over a male. When hiring people choose males,”‘We find that without any information other than a candidate’s appearance (which makes sex clear)... more likely to hire a man that a women’” (techcrunch.com). Men are hired because they are considered more superior than women. A factor that might contribute favoring hiring a man is the occupation. Computer Science, engineering, and anything technology related is considered as a males’ job. Therefore, Men continue to have more power than women. Both men and Women perform the same task but men get paid more by a 37 percent gap. Females have a lower chance of job opportunities.
