ICC9K1 Personal cultural biases and differences that affect one’s teaching. - Competency 4 I am very careful to be respectful of the various cultures and differences among the students at my school, so this does not impact my teaching. I differentiate my instruction in order to accommodate the needs. I am in a school with students from a wide range of countries.
One strategy that reinforces learning through collaboration is team teaching. In the classroom both teachers are positioned at the front of the classroom with different responsibilities. For example, one teacher may write notes, while the other delivers large group instruction. Through team teaching, both educators can bounce ideas off one another or show students two different methods of solving a problem. This strategy is most effective in a coteaching partnership emphasizing give and take.
Schools regularly have many external professionals who work with them, and these can include: educational psychologists; speech and language therapists; specialist teachers; Education Welfare Officers; School Improvement Partners; and physiotherapists/occupational therapists. An educational psychologist is assigned to a school and they work closely with SENCO providing pupil observations and assessments, helping to plan the provision for those with additional needs. A school will have links with speech and language therapists who can work with pupils to help with communication, language and speech problems.
Supporting all stakeholders happens at four levels: students, teachers, leadership and caregivers. Students need to be supported with proficient instruction in the classroom. Being familiar with Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching and the Coaching Evaluation Rubric allows me to
As a member of the District TPEP guidance committee, I advocate for the CTE teachers and programs, as they relate to teacher
Northwestern’s Problem Based Learning (PBL) curriculum is the primary factor influencing my decision to apply to the PA Program. I strongly believe that a PBL-centered format is the optimal way for me to learn how to practice medicine. Although many PA programs have adopted the PBL system, Northwestern is uniquely equipped to supplement its curriculum with resources such as the Simulation Technology and Immersive Learning Center (STIL Center). Additionally, the Program’s location and affiliations with several esteemed Chicagoland area clinical sites provides students with access to unparalleled clinical learning opportunities. This combination of unique and distinctive features offers an exceptional learning experience to Northwestern PA students.
LC appreciates this approach to teaching her children. She wants to make the learning process fun, interesting and a family involved educational experience. LC believes her children are in the first stages of substance abuse and if they tackle this as a family in a positive manner, the children will learn and not feel shame. Adaptation occurs in this instance when LC expresses interest in the website version of teaching. The student nurse prepares to teach with paper articles; however, LC gravitates to the computer-based options believing they will grab the attention of her children.
The Campus of Virginia Randolph is a school for children with mental disabilities and emotional disorders. I imagined an Instructional Assistant job meant that I would be assisting the Lead instructor with lesson planning and group projects. While that may be part of the job, it wasn 't as often an occurrence as expected. My job was mainly to separate kids who fought, follow students who ran out of the classroom whenever they felt, and to watch for triggers that may set off the
Since the students are learning at different levels, I work with each one to achieve academic skills; in addition to recognizing issues, encouraging socialization and independence. Also, I have earned the title as a Registered Behavioral Technician through training, exams, and BCBA observations. Applied Behavior Analysis is very useful while managing behaviors that interfere with learning. I am invested in knowing the needs, weaknesses, strengths, and fears of all the students.
The same number of hours for 5th grade language arts and social studies can be assigned to another teacher, who can teach both subjects, too. These two teachers and specialists (art, PE, music, Spanish and computer teachers) make up a team and get together for a meeting on every Monday after school for designing complementary and collaborative curricula. They do this because new 6th graders are coming from a self-contained classroom and They want a smooth transition from a self-contained classroom to a team teaching one step by step. At the 6th grade, students have five different teachers, at the 7th grade students have six different teachers, and the 8th grade students have seven different teachers. They have three special education teachers, each taking a class load of 10 to 15 students and three paraprofessionals to cover all inclusion supports and they hire additional paraprofessionals as needed.
As a teaching assistant you can give children and young people the tools to building relationships by modelling appropriate behaviour. To encourage trust and understanding, it is necessary to ensure that children understand instructions. Whether for an activity or a fire drill, any miscommunication of instructions can lead to misunderstanding and feelings of unease. When giving instructions it is important to make them simple and concise so that children can remember them.
3. Joey makes a big deal of having fallen in love with John in 20 minutes--practically love at first sight. Is this significant in light of how long it takes other people to make other decisions in this film? I don’t believe that it is significant to other people to make decisions quickly since other people like John and Joey’s parents demanded for more time to think about their decision. For example, Mr. Drayton asked for more time to approve their marriage to both John and Joey.
In my professional studies assignment, I examined research on the effectiveness on teaching assistants. As a parent the support my son has had from teaching assistants has been extremely positive. He was during primary school, three years behind his peers in Year 2, however by Year 6 he gained a Level 5 in both Maths and Science and Level 4 In English. I also observed during my teaching practices, teaching assistants deployed in several effective ways, such as helping in managing behaviour; making notes and observations about children to aid report writing. Supporting lower ability and EAL children during mental and oral starters; giving assistance in independent work and providing further explanation and visual aids to support understanding.
Englert & Tarrant (1995) studied three special education teachers within a learning community and suggest that one teacher developed skills of implementing a new group story format and utilising choral reading strategies. Berry, Johnson, & Montgomery (2005) noted that teachers in a learning community search for outside ideas to help them solve teaching dilemmas. Andrews & Lewis (2002) explore teachers’ perceptions about being in a learning community and indicated changes in their practices. However, in all those studies concrete evidence of a link between peer support and changes in practice is illusive; especially the methodologies are challenging. Although Dunne, Nave, & Lewis (2000) studied teachers for two years and collected data through multiple ways, there was no indication of practices prior to the intervention.
Have you ever think about the similarities and differences between Regular Education and Special Education? Regular education is the term often used to describe the educational experience of typically developing children. By the other hand, Special Education programs are designed for those students who are mentally, physically, socially or emotionally delayed, which places them behind their peers. As you can see, these two provide an example of different types of education. We can find differences such as their educators, academic content and methods of teaching, but we can also find similarities in their academic content.
