In this background paper, the organization is a mid-level general hospital in an urban setting in Texas. The organization is comprised of diverse personnel composed of multiple ethnicities working 24/7 in several different environments. The results of the research conducted at the general hospital have resulted in findings and problems within the organization. In order to become a more effective organization, it is imperative that solutions are implemented so that these problems are rectified and a better work environment will be established. The results indicate that General Hospital is affected by role conflicts within groups, communication issues in group members, non-cohesiveness in diverse groups, and excessive intergroup conflict along with a companywide training program. At the end of this paper, there will be explicit directions in order to make changes to eradicate these issues at the general hospital. The first issue that will be discussed is the role conflicts in groups, the examples of conflict, and the measures needed to make changes. The first problem that will be discussed is the role conflicts within groups. According to Losh (2011), “role conflict arises when these expectations about how to play a role or set of roles are inconsistent in some way” (p. 4.2). Across the board, it has been determined that role conflicts are happening the Operating Room and also at reception.
