Over 9 million people in the U.S. suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder, that is about 5% of the U.S. population.For the large number of people who suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) it brings many challenges with it. Many of these challenges start out of as mental issues, but they can evolve into physical issues that affect a person’s life. For example, some common effects that often come along with GAD that can negatively affect someone’s life are depression, substance abuse, and eating disorders. Those effects may only be mental issues, but they can make very real impacts on someone’s life. It does this by causing an extreme, unwarranted fear of particular situation or things. This can cause a fear of leaving the house, and a fear of social situations, for some people this means a fear of going to school. “Researchers asked 201 patients in the university 's two anxiety disorders clinics about the impact of their disorder on school functioning. Of these, 49% reported leaving school prematurely, with only 25.9% completing Grade 12.” (Long) In this country, it is very hard to get any sort of job without a high school diploma, aside from the military, or fast food restaurants.
