Introduction This essay will reflect on my personal experience, skills, and knowledge gained from my studies and practice of undertaking blood pressure (Bp) whilst completing my professional placement. Bp may be defined as a force of blood against vessel walls in the body, consisting of systolic and diastolic pressure measured in millimeters of mercury. (Waugh and Grant, 2016) Systolic pressure occurs when the hearts left ventricle contracts and forces blood into the aorta causing a heightened atrial pressure, while diastolic pressure refers to complete cardiac diastole, this is when the aortic valve closes and pressure is at its lowest between beats, blood moves into smaller corresponding vessels and the heart rests.
July of 2017 I walked out of the doors of what had been my latest career move in nine and half years. This was a career move that solidified my role in the operational world of banking. 2017 was my 20th year of working in the banking industry around the United States. However, I knew then that work experience would not be enough for me to reach my goal. I needed to complete my bachelor’s degree, one that I had placed on the side of the family, work, and career.
Learning such skills should start at university [12,13]. This helps them efficiently apply theoretical knowledge acquired at university in real-world situations where they are expected to solve patient ’s problems [12]. Given that the main goal of education in medical sciences including nursing is to develop professional competence, decision-making skills and problem-solving, nursing education is responsible for creating an environment where students can learn and acquire cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills.
