Developing goals, in my opinion, is one of the most critical things to do in order to achieve success. What are goals you ask? Goals are stepping stones. They are the steps that you achieve and the end result is your ultimate destination. In this paper you will see which goals I have on both a personal and professional level. Most importantly you will see what I am doing to achieve these goals. As many of you know I currently serve in the United States Army. The Army made sure I understand that the only way to go far in the Military is to have goals. Within this I have made both long term and short term goals. The difference between these two is that the short term goals are ones that I want to achieve within one to two years. The long term goals are ones that take between three plus years. My top long term professional goal is to reach the rank of Command Sergeants Major in the United States Army. That is the top of the totem pole when it comes to rank. In order to reach that goal I must be within the United States Army for a minimum of 17 years. You also must be selected by a board comprised of the top leaders in the United States Army. This brings me to my top personal short term goal. Completing my Associates degree by next year. Their system showed me exactly what courses I needed to take and also when the best time to take them is. They did this to ensure I am successful in my courses. They also gave me an introduction to learning on the internet. Specifically, they showed me how I can accelerate my courses to succeed faster. No more going to an actual physical campus, it is all online and on my time frame. I can now spend time with my children and give them my undivided attention while knowing that I can still further my own
